Rhee Dae-eun of the KT Wiz announced his abrupt retirement on Thursday.

The 33-year-old pitcher is calling it quits just three years after joining the team.

The pitcher said through the club, "I failed to meet fans' expectations due to injuries and felt I wouldn't be able to help my team in the years to come." He added, "I made a decision to start a new chapter in my life."

After signing with the Chicago Cubs in 2007 while still in high school, he played for the Cubs' minor league teams until 2015, when he moved to Japan to play for the Chiba Lotte Marines, spending about two years there.

After finishing his military service, he made his Korean league debut in 2019.

Rhee's retirement is somewhat unexpected considering his age and the relatively minor nature of his injuries.

Meanwhile, he grabbed some attention off the field when he tied the knot with rapper Trudy last month.
