Swimmer Hwang Sun-woo won gold in the men's 200-m freestyle at the FINA World Swimming Championships in the UAE.
Hwang clocked 1:41.60 to narrowly beat his Russian competitor in the final using a short course in Abu Dhabi on Dec. 17. The championships use a 25-m race course, which is shorter than the typical 50-m swimming pool used in some other international competitions.
It was his first gold in a major championship, and he becomes the first Korean to win the event at the World Championships in five years, since Park Tae-hwan did so with a time of 1:41.08 in 2016.
