Music director Jung Jae-il has been chosen as a winner of the inaugural Chanel Next Prize.
Launched by the French luxury label, the Chanel Next Prize honors 10 international artists "to provide an emerging generation of creative risk-takers with resources to tackle ambitious new projects."
Jung has earned global recognition for his work on Netflix's hit Korean series "Squid Game" and Oscar-winning director Bong Joon-ho's films "Okja" and "Parasite."
Chanel said Jung, who divides his time between Seoul and Berlin, "is a composer, performer, music director and producer [creating] a new genre that fuses traditional Korean music with the sounds of Western instruments."
Last month, Jung became the first Korean to win a gong at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards.
Each Chanel Next Prize winner receives 100,000 euros and the opportunity to participate in mentorship and networking programs supported by the company.
