The southeastern industrial port of Pohang opened a futuristic looped walking trail resembling a roller-coaster track to the public last week.

The "Space Walk" was designed by German artists Heike Mutter and Ulrich Genth.

Standing 25m tall at its highest and containing 717 steps, the Space Walk stretches for 333 m, offering sweeping views of the city including POSCO's sprawling steel factory.

People walk along a looped walking trail in Pohang, North Gyeongsang Province on Nov. 19.

Up to 250 people can walk on the structure at the same time, and there is even an overhead loop that seems to defy gravity.

The city spent W11.7 billion on the homage to the city's industrial heritage, which can withstand a 6.3-magnitude earthquake (US$1=W1,192).

Pohang Mayor Lee Kang-deok said, "It will become a symbol of the region's reviving tourism industry."
