Korea's best-known annual short film festival kicked off in Seoul on Thursday with a new name and sponsor.

The Gwanghwamun International Short Film Festival, in its 19th year, will screen a total of 84 movies from 36 countries at Cine Cube in downtown Seoul. Previously known as the Asiana International Short Film Festival, the event has changed its sponsor from Asiana Airlines to Pandora TV.

The opening ceremony started with a screening of "The Letter Room" starring American actor Oscar Isaac, who appeared in the "Star Wars" sequel trilogy. It was nominated for an Oscar at this year's Academy Awards.

The film follows a corrections officer who gets emotionally involved in a prisoner's life after reading her letters in a mailroom.

Cine Cube recently reopened after undergoing renovations. For the festival schedule, visit its website at www.gisff.kr.
