Teen swimming sensation Hwang Sun-woo was voted MVP at the National Sports Festival on Thursday.
Hwang earned 55 out of 64 votes cast by reporters at his last competition before he graduates from high school in February next year.
He won the men's 400-m medley relay to win his fifth gold medal at the festival after his victories in the 50-m freestyle, 2x400-m freestyle relay, 200-m individual medley and 400-m freestyle relay.
In the 200-m individual medley, he set a Korean record of 1:58.04, shaving 2.27 seconds off the previous record of 2:00.31 set by Park Tae-hwan in 2014.
"I am happy to get five gold medals, which was my goal in this competition," Hwang said. "I'm glad I was able to end my last competition in high school on a high note."
Hwang plans not to go on to university and will instead devote himself to preparing for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
