Prosecutors on Tuesday called on the Seoul Central District Court to fine Samsung chief Lee Jae-yong W70 million for abusing the once-fashionable knockout sleeping drug Propofol (US$1=W1,198).
Lee was indicted on charges of being given regular injections of the knockout drug that killed pop star Michael Jackson on no fewer than 41 occasions from 2015 to 2020. Lee admitted the charges.
The drug was subject to a bizarre fad among the rich and famous here.
Lee claimed mitigating circumstances because the drug was ostensibly administered for "treatment." He will be sentenced on Oct. 26.
The Samsung chief was jailed for two-and-a-half years early this year for bribing ex-President Park Geun-hye but paroled in August under a special amnesty.
