Korea drew 1-1 with Iran in its fourth match of the final round of Asian qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar on Tuesday.
Son Heung-min scored the opening goal in the 48th minute of the away match at Azadi Stadium in Teheran, but Alireza Jahanbakhsh equalized in the 76th minute.
With the draw, Korea maintained second place in its group with eight points from two wins and two draws, behind Iran with 10 points from three wins and one draw.
Korea, ranked 36th in the FIFA rankings, is aiming for its 10th consecutive World Cup appearance.
At No. 22, Iran is the highest-ranked among Asian Football Confederation members. Leading up to Tuesday's draw, it had posted 10 consecutive wins in international matches, including three wins in Asian qualifiers, since October last year.
