Celltrion has signed a W738.2 billion contract to supply rapid coronavirus test kits to the U.S. Department of Defense (US$1=W1,173).
The company said Thursday that it will supply DiaTrust antigen test kits that were developed jointly with Humasis, which specializes in rapid diagnostic kits.
Celltrion's U.S. subsidiary will be supplying 25,000 kits to military installations, nursing homes and regional testing centers by September 2022.
"The contract price was the highest among bidders, so it's a mark of confidence that we won the order in spite of the 'Buy American Act,'" the company said.
DiaTrust is capable of detecting COVID-19 infections in just 15 minutes by causing the coronavirus to react to an antibody attached to the test kit.
The Korean bio company obtained expedited U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval for the rapid test kits in April this year. It also signed a W240 billion contract last December to supply DiaTrust kits to Prime Healthcare in the U.S.
