Actor Ha Jung-woo was found guilty on Tuesday of abusing Propofol, the once-fashionable knockout sleeping drug that killed American superstar Michael Jackson.

The Seoul Central District Court fined the actor W30 million (US$1=W1,170). Judge Park Seol-ah said Ha "bears a heavier responsibility due to his position as a beloved actor" who is expected to be a role model.

Emerging from the court, Ha said, "I have nothing to say about the ruling. I will humbly accept it and live a healthy life. I am sorry."

Prosecutors had called for a W10 million fine. Ha was nabbed as part of a sweeping investigation of Propofol abuse by rich kids, entertainment moguls and other celebrities and was given the prescription drug in his brother's name.

Last month he told the court he needed the drug as part of treatment for skin problems caused by wearing so much makeup in the job.
