Korea beat Lebanon 1-0 in a match in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province on Tuesday. It was Korea's first victory in the final round of Asian qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Despite a handful of chances to score in the first half, Korea was unable to convert them into goals with its lineup missing its captain and attacker Son Heung-min. Son was unable to play as he injured his right calf during training, just a couple of hours before kickoff.
But midfielder Kwon Chang-hoon broke a scoreless deadlock with a goal in the 60th minute, netting a cross from forward Hwang Hee-chan.
With Tuesday's win, Korea added three points, having amassed four points after two matches including a draw against Iraq last week.
Korea is grouped with Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria and the UAE and will play a total of 10 home and away matches with the five Middle Eastern countries.
Korea will face Syria at home on Oct. 7 and play an away match against Iran on Oct. 12.
