Rain is expected to drench Korea for three days with up to 300 mm of precipitation throughout the country.
It started on the west coast on Tuesday morning and is expected to spread nationwide in the course of the day, bringing 50 mm to 70 mm of precipitation an hour.
The Korea Meteorological Administration said a massive low-pressure front is approaching from China, causing a huge rain cloud to cover Korea.
In the Seoul metropolitan region and central parts of the country the rain will stop on Thursday, though in southern parts it will continue until Friday.
But some warm summer days could still lie ahead. "A North Pacific high-pressure front remains south of Jeju Island, so we don't project autumn weather immediately after the rain ends," a weatherman said.
