Korea managed to defeat the Dominican Republic in men's baseball at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo on Sunday.
In a game against the Caribbean side in Yokohama, the Korean hitters struggled against Dominican veteran pitcher Raul Valdez, who limited them to just one run in five and 1/3 innings while striking out five.
But they came back in dramatic fashion at the bottom of the ninth inning to end the game with a 4-3 victory.
Rookie southpaw Lee Eui-lee did more than his fair share, giving up four hits, two walks and three runs while striking out nine in five innings. However, Korea's offense was listless and only managed one run until the eighth inning, trailing 3-1.
The ninth inning started with pinch-hitter Choi Joo-hwan's single, followed by pinch runner Kim Hye-seong, who stole a base to reach second. Then Korea was able to tie the score with a single by Park Hae-min and double by Lee Jung-hoo, and Kim Hyun-soo hit a walk-off single to end the game.
Now Korea is set to face Israel at noon on Monday. If Korea wins, it will go through to Wednesday's semifinal, in which it will play against either Japan or the U.S.
