Korea's épée fencers won a silver medal in the women's team event at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo on Tuesday.

The Korean team consisting of Choi In-jeong, Kang Young-mi and Song Se-ra lost to Estonia, but that was much-needed redemption for them as they dropped out of their individual events last week.

Lee Hye-in was also on the team as the fourth alternate player.

The silver-medal finish was Korea's first in the event since the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

It was all the more meaningful for them as they had a hard time preparing for the Olympics after a couple of fencers in the women's épée team caught COVID-19 last year.
