Kim Jung-hwan won a bronze medal in the men's individual sabre at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo last Saturday, becoming the first Korean fencer ever to win a medal at three consecutive Olympics.
Kim won gold in the team sabre event in London in 2012, and bronze in the individual sabre in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
After the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Kim announced his retirement, but returned after a year. But his world ranking dropped to 15th in the meantime, and there were some concerns over his physical strength and possible injuries.
Moreover, the fact that the Olympics were delayed by a year did not help Kim, who is in his late 30s. But he surprised everyone by winning the medal.
Kim will compete in the team sabre on Wednesday.
