The world's biggest retailer Walmart is handing out Samsung's Galaxy smartphones to 740,000 out of its 1.6 million staff in the U.S.
Walmart said last week that it will distribute the Galaxy Xcover Pro by the end of this year.
Samsung and Walmart are continuing discussions to supply Galaxy phones to the remaining American workers, but it is already the biggest business-to-business smartphone contract ever for Samsung.
The Korean electronics giant also supplies the U.S. military and the Swiss railroad authority but the scale is less than 100,000 phones.
The Galaxy Xcover Pro retails for US$499.99 and is only for B2B sales, so the Walmart contract is worth more than W400 billion (US$1=W1,115). The phone comes with Walmart's homegrown "Me@Walmart" app for scheduling, barcode scanning, walkie-talkie and remote shut-off functions.
Walmart said, "As retail continues to evolve -- and quickly – it's more critical than ever to equip our people with the tools and technology they need for success."
It will use Samsung's Knox security program to make sure the company's networks cannot access the personal information of workers.
