Actress Han Ye-ri has been appointed a promotional ambassador for the International Modern Dance Festival.

The festival, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, lasts from May 25 to June 13.

Han, who recently starred in the globally acclaimed film "Minari," graduated from the Korea National University of Arts as a Korean traditional dance major, but had a background in modern dance and ballet before enrolling in the university.

"You can express yourself freely, like cutting your hair short and wearing whatever you want, when doing modern dance," she said.

"Minari," Korean-American director Lee Isaac Chung's autobiographical film about a Korean family who migrate to the U.S. in the 1980s, has earned a great number of honors at international film festivals and awards ceremonies including the Sundance Film Festival and Golden Globe Awards. It was also nominated in six categories at this year's Academy Awards but only came away with one Oscar, with Youn Yuh-jung winning for Best Supporting Actress.
