The first May snow in 34 years fell in Daegwallyeong, Gangwon Province on Sunday.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, up to 20 cm of snow fell in mountainous areas of the province like Mt. Odae and Mt. Balwang from Saturday night until early Sunday morning.
It was the first time snow has fallen in Daegwallyeong in May since 1987.
Many tourists rushed to enjoy the snowscape, and some golf courses near Daegwallyeong closed due to heavy snowfall.
The reason was a cold air mass with the temperature of -25 degrees Celsius reached the area from the north. "Rain changed into snow at 700 m or higher above sea level," the KMA said.
Temperatures are fluctuating wildly this spring, and it will be clear across the country on Monday, with morning lows between 4 and 12 degrees and daytime highs between 17 and 25 degrees.
