A surveillance satellite captured images of a North Korean submersible missile-test barge on the move on Tuesday, but pundits said no test of a submarine-launched ballistic missile seems imminent.
The barge was moved at the Sinpo shipyard in South Hamgyong Province, according to the Beyond Parallel website run by the U.S. Center for Strategic and International Studies.
One picture taken at around 11:09 a.m. Tuesday shows an "overview of the secure boat basin and the floating dry dock at the Sinpo South Shipyard, as well as the submersible test-stand barge, towed by a small support vessel."
Another image from around 3:40 p.m. the same day shows that "the barge has left the secure boat basin to the floating dry dock."
"As no missile canister is visible onboard the submersible missile test barge, this movement does not indicate an imminent submarine launched ballistic missile test," the website added.
But it warned, "The movement of the test stand barge, and the implied threat of renewed SLBM testing..., would present significant challenges" to the U.S. and South Korea.
