Bangtan Boys, also known as BTS, on Wednesday became the first Korean act to be nominated for a gong at the Brit Awards.

Launched in 1977, the annual popular music awards are run by the British Phonographic Industry. Nominees are selected by the awards' voting academy with over 1,000 members.

The boys were nominated in the category of Best International Group for their all-English hit "Dynamite."

Last year the Brit Awards suffered a backlash from many BTS fans -- known as the "Army" -- after the category was scrapped without explanation, apparently prompting it to be reinstated after just a year.

The awards ceremony is scheduled to be held in London on May 11.

Earlier this year, the boys were also nominated for best pop/duo performance at the U.S. Grammy Awards, the first-ever Grammy nomination for a K-pop act, but lost out.
