Netflix's webtoon-based horror series "Sweet Home" has riveted global fans with its terrifying subject and storyline and catapulted its leading man, Song Kang, to global attention.
Song debuted on cable channel tvN's drama series "The Liar and His Lover" in 2017. Although he played only minor roles in his early TV shows, he left a lasting impression on young viewers. His popularity got a boost when he appeared in the 2019 Netflix series "Love Alarm," which was also based on a webtoon.
In that show, Song played a wealthy young man who has both money and looks but cannot seem to win the heart of the woman he loves.
"Sweet Home" is a very different sort of story, where Song plays a lonely high-schooler who is being tormented by strange incidents in his apartment.
Song said being cast as the star of such a big production was burdensome, but his experience living alone in Seoul helped him breathe life into his character.
"I want to be able to express my emotions more freely," he said. "I keep a diary every day. I write my thoughts about acting and my feelings. I also write a letter to myself at the end of each year."
Song said he was inspired to become an actor by Leonardo DiCaprio in "Titanic."
