Exports of Korean dried laver, or gim, reached an all-time high last year.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries said Thursday that Korea exported US$601 million worth of dried laver products in 2020, up 3.8 percent on-year from $579 million. It is the first time they have topped $600 million, nearly doubling from $305 million in 2015.
Dried laver was the top export item among food products last year for the second straight year.
In particular, seasoned laver, which is usually eaten with cooked rice, saw a big increase of 13 percent from a year earlier, as people eat at home rather than out due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Exports of all fishery products, however, amounted to $2.32 billion, down 7.4 percent on-year.
