Son Heung-min of Tottenham Hotspur has become the first Asian player to make the shortlist for the Men's World 11 by FIFA and FIFPro, the International Federation of Professional Footballers, for two years in a row.
He is competing with 14 others including his teammate Harry Kane and Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo for a forward slot.
The annual list names the 11 best footballers according to a vote by "thousands of professional players from around the world." Some 30,000 players from 67 countries participated in this year's vote, each selecting one goalkeeper, four defenders, three midfielders and three forwards out of 55 contenders shortlisted.
Ji So-yun of Chelsea FC Women became the first Korean to make the shortlist for the Women's World 11.
The final lists will be announced on Thursday.
