Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Thursday sounded subtle warning to Korea not to side with the U.S. in any conflict with Beijing.

"The U.S. is not the only country in this world," Wang said in a press conference with his Korea counterpart Kang Kyung-wha at the Foreign Ministry in Seoul. "There are some 190 countries in the world, and they are all independent countries."

He was responding to a question whether he would urge the Korean government not to join Washington's campaign of pressure against Beijing.

Asked whether Chinese President Xi Jinping is likely to visit Seoul soon, Wang only pointed out that everyone in the room was still wearing masks, alluding to a surge of coronavirus infections here.

Wang then spoke to President Moon Jae-in at Cheong Wa Dae for about an hour. He wraps up his three-day visit on Friday morning after meeting a couple of government officials.
