A growing number of single women opt to freeze their eggs when they are still young and healthy in case they want to have children later in life.
According to the CHA Medical Center on Sunday, requests to have eggs frozen soared a whopping 35 times over the last decade from a mere 14 in 2010 to 493 last year. The number of eggs frozen during the period jumped about 41 times from just 102 to 4,184.
"In most cases, eggs only used to be frozen and stored if a woman was about to have cancer treatment, but now an increasing number of single women choose to freeze their eggs," a CHA spokesperson said.
More than 70 percent of those who have frozen their eggs are over 35.
