The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency on Monday promised to announce next month what types and how many coronavirus vaccines the government can get its hands on.
Jung Eun-kyeong, the agency's director, told reporters, "By the end of the year, we believe we can obtain 30 million doses. We are in contract negotiations with some pharmaceutical companies and in talks over purchase terms with others."
The government is part of the COVAX Facility, a global risk-sharing mechanism aimed at securing vaccines for equitable distribution. That way it hopes to secure enough doses for 10 million people, while it is talks with Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca and others to secure 20 million more.
