President Moon Jae-in is to reiterate his call to maintain essential global exchanges despite the coronavirus epidemic at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting Friday evening.
The 21 APEC member states will discuss their coronavirus response at the virtual meet. Moon will urge participants to join him in keeping borders open as long as that does not interfere with quarantine measures to maintain the global supply network and revive the virus-hit economy.
He will also share Korea's experience in fighting the epidemic and its contributions to the international community by providing humanitarian assistance and efforts toward vaccine and treatment development.
A dubious highlight of Friday's session will be outgoing U.S. President Donald Trump, who is making his first international appearance since being voted out of office earlier this month.
He is to face off with Chinese President Xi Jinping, who also joins from Beijing amid continued tensions with Washington.
