Korean and Chinese diplomats are fine-tuning the schedule for a visit to Seoul by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi later this month.
Wang is expected to discuss with Korean officials how to cooperate once the Joe Biden administration is inaugurated in Washington. They could also discuss a mooted visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
A Foreign Ministry spokesman on Monday would only say, "The two countries are continuing to communicate with each other about the exchange of high-level officials."
Japan's Jiji Press on Sunday said Wang is likely to visit Tokyo on Nov. 24 or 25, "and the two governments are working to set up a meeting between Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and Wang on Nov. 25." Wang will therefore stop over in Seoul just before or after.
Last month, Wang abruptly canceled planned visits to Seoul and Tokyo after Japan hosted a meeting of the anti-China Quadrilateral Security Dialogue or Quad alliance with Australia, India and the U.S.
