At least 23 Koreans working for a construction company in Poland have tested positive for coronavirus.
Hyundai Engineering and Construction said Wednesday that 23 of its Korean staff and 145 Polish staff at a petrochemical plant building site in northwestern Poland contracted the virus.
Hyundai tested all 1,300 staff there after one Korean tested positive last week.
Among the 9,354 Korean workers on construction projects in 92 countries, 195 had caught COVID-19 at one time or another reported as of Oct. 16. Five died.
Most Korean expats have been flown back home since the epidemic erupted, but construction workers have not for fear of mounting costs if projects are delayed.
Fears of infection are mounting especially in Iraq, Russia, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, where many Korean builders are involved in construction projects and protection is rudimentary.
