Most jobseekers will keep looking for work over Chuseok or Korean Thanksgiving, a straw poll suggests.
Employment search portal Saramin polled 2,266 jobseekers about their plans for Chuseok and found that 62.2 percent will be looking for work. Some 52.6 percent said they do not plan to meet up with their family and relatives.
Asked why, 64.6 percent said they did not want to miss any opportunities at a time when job offers are so scarce.
Respondents were allowed to select multiple answers.
The response indicates that jobseekers are under increasing pressure as employment opportunities dwindle due to the protracted coronavirus epidemic.
Many said they cannot rest until they find work or have to stay home anyway due to the virus. A small proportion said they simply cannot face their family because they have no job.
But among the 857 respondents who said they will take a break from their job search, 52 percent said they wanted to escape from the stress and 39.8 percent said they did not think they could focus on looking for work with the nation's biggest holiday going on around them.
Others said they would miss their families.
