Schools in the greater Seoul area will finally reopen next Monday after daily new coronavirus infections stayed below 200 for nearly two weeks.
But Education Minister Yoo Eun-hae on Tuesday warned elementary and middle schools to keep numbers in attendance at any given time below one-third of the total student body and high schools below two-thirds until after Chuseok or Oct. 11.
She said the ministry will discuss with health authorities to decide whether to expand offline classes even after that.
Yoo urged schools to comply strictly with quarantine guidelines so that the nationwide college entrance exam can be conducted without a hitch on Dec. 3.
