The government aims to secure enough coronavirus vaccines for 30 million people or 60 percent of Korea's population.
In a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun on Tuesday, the Ministry of Health and Welfare said it plans to secure vaccines for 10 million people through the COVAX facility set up by the World Health Organization and 20 million more from private pharmaceutical companies.
This will be the first stage of the government's vaccine-procurement plan, which will eventually cover the entire population.
Health authorities will announce specific plans next month on who will benefit from the first round.
The government has set aside W172.3 billion to purchase the vaccines (US$1=W1,181).
