The UN Security Council has granted a sanctions waiver to South Korea's Gyeonggi Province so it can supply North Korea with materials to build greenhouses, according to its website on Wednesday.
The council's committee on North Korea says the waiver, approved on Aug. 4, is for materials worth US$368,000.
They will "support the Improving Nutrition of Vulnerable Groups project, in Nampo and South Pyongan Province, through the provision of a glass greenhouse system and related materials," the committee said
Parts of North Korea have been devastated by recent floods amid an already precarious food situation there.
Gyeonggi Province has up to six months to send the materials before the waiver expires.
