Kia's new Carnival minivan, which is due to be released next month, has set a new one-day pre-order record for any car in Korea.
Kia said on Wednesday that it sold a total of 23,006 Carnivals on the first day of pre-orders, breaking the previous record of 18,941 cars set by the latest Sorrento SUV Kia also released in March.
Carnival, first launched in 1998, has sold over 2 million vehicles around the world.
The new Carnival has undergone a full facelift for the first time in six years reinforced with the latest technologies and improved user friendliness. It features the smart power sliding door, which allows a driver to open the door with a smart key, simply by standing near it, while the second-row seats in a sever-seater model can recline to nearly 180 degrees.
It is also equipped with smart cruise control, forward collision-avoidance assist and lane-following assist.
Prices range from W31.6 to W41.05 million for a nine or a 11 seater, and from W38.24 to W43.54 million for a seven-seater (US$1=W1,193).
