Korea last month became only the fourth country in the world successfully to transplant a lung on a coronavirus patient.
The operation was conducted on a woman at Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital in Gyeonggi Province on June 21.
She was suffering from pulmonary fibrosis, a hardening of the lungs, and had been put in intensive care for over 100 days after contracting the virus in late February.
The patient, who is in her 50s, is now reportedly breathing well on her own and undergoing rehabilitation.
The other countries to perform the same surgery with success are Austria, China and the U.S.
