Ryu Hyun-jin of the Toronto Blue Jays has once again been forced to halt his plan to pack and return to Canada to start the long-awaited season.
The government of Canada's Ontario state on Wednesday expressed reluctance to approve Major League Baseball's plan to make Toronto a hub city for hosting games amid disruptions to sports events in North America caused by the coronavirus.
The club therefore decided to summon all of the players to Dunedin, Florida, where they held spring training until it was suspended due to coronavirus.
Ryu has since stayed there, as Canada has banned entry to all foreigners.
The Blue Jays had originally planned to take players who are still in the U.S. to Toronto on a chartered flight and start training at their home stadium from Saturday prior to the opening of the new season on July 23 or 24.
