Ryu Hyun-jin of the Toronto Blue Jays is finally able to return to Canada with his teammates this week after a lengthy lockdown.

Local media on Monday reported that the Blue Jays players, who have been stuck in Dunedin, Florida, are set to fly to Toronto on Thursday.

The Blue Jays are the only Major League Baseball team based outside of the U.S.

Ryu stayed there when the club's exhibition games were suspended during spring training in March due to the coronavirus epidemic. He and some of his teammates had to stay put as Canada banned entry to all foreigners.

But they are now able to return to Canada as the Canadian government lifted quarantine restrictions on them amid an easing of the lockdown, allowing them to get ready for the MLB season, which is slated to restart in late July.

Meanwhile, each MLB team will have a player pool of up to 60 players for the season, an increase from the usual 40. The MLB's expanded 60-man rosters from 30 teams include four Korean players -- Ryu, Choi Ji-man of the Tampa Bay Rays, Choo Shin-soo of the Texas Rangers and Kim Kwang-hyun of the St. Louis Cardinals.
