The tourism industry in Korea, which is usually booming at this time of year, is experiencing its worst season in nearly a decade.
The Korea Culture and Tourism Institute said on Tuesday the country's revenue from tourism from foreign travelers dropped to around US$730 million, the lowest level in nine years in March due to the coronavirus epidemic. It plummeted 67 percent on-year.
Meanwhile, spending by Korean travelers overseas was US$882 million, down a whopping 60 percent on-year.
The number of visitors to Korea plummeted 95 percent and Korean travelers overseas 94 percent in March on-year.
