The long weekend starting with Buddha's Birthday on April 30 seems to have prompted moviegoers to return to theaters as the coronavirus epidemic shows signs of slowing down.
According to the Korean Film Council on Sunday, the daily number of moviegoers from April 30 to May 2 stood at 70,000 to 100,000. On April 30 alone 106,912 people visited theaters, surpassing 100,000 a day for the first time since March 14.
The main attraction was a kids' animation, "Trolls World Tour." Since opening in theaters here on April 29 it has attracted 46,000 viewers.
Movie theaters are dusting off seats as the country eases lockdown rules and starts a slow return to normal, while dates are being announced of the postponed releases of new movies.
