As the coronavirus epidemic shows signs of easing, professional baseball players will be able to start their belated regular season early next month.
The Korea Baseball Organization said Tuesday it decided to start this year's baseball season on May 5.
Opening games on May 5, which is Children's Day, a holiday here, will be played without spectators, but after a matter of weeks, the KBO will gradually allow crowds, while taking preventive safety measures.
Despite the belated opening, the KBO plans to go ahead with all 144 regular-season games allocated to each team by November, but there is still a possibility to wrap up the season early if any player tests positive for the virus.
