Seoul recorded its first death of a person infected with coronavirus on Tuesday, 78 days after the first infection was confirmed in Korea.
The 44-year-old victim was the husband of a worker in a call center in Guro where 166 staff were infected.
He died on Tuesday at Yonsei University's Severance Hospital where he had been treated since testing positive on March 19. He had been suffering from lung cancer.
A resident of Mangwon-dong in the Mapo district, his wife had been working at the call center to make ends meet as her husband was in the terminal stages of cancer. She tested positive for the virus on March 18, and her husband and their teenage son and daughter the next day.
She and her son have fully recovered, but her daughter is still in hospital.
The total death toll across the country reached 200 as of Wednesday morning. There had been no death from the virus in the greater Seoul metropolitan area except eight in Gyeonggi Province.
