Hyundai received a record number of first-day pre-orders for its new Avante on Wednesday.
The fully revamped sedan sold 10,058 units on the first day of pre-sales, the most ever for the Avante. The figure is nine times more than that of its predecessor (1,146) in 2016. Hyundai sold an average of 5,175 Avantes a month last year.
It remains to be seen whether the new Avante will boost the compact car market, which has seen demand shrink 32 percent over the last five years, while the coronavirus outbreak is hurting consumer sentiment.
The new car boasts a sleek, stylish look and driver-centered interior. It is also equipped with cutting-edge safety and convenience features.
Hyundai will launch the new car on April 7 and plans to mark the occasion with a promotional video on its website and YouTube.
The gasoline model is priced between W15.31 million and W24.22 million, and the LPG model costs W18.09 million to W21.97 million (US$1=W1,229).
