The warmest winter on record meant that the Han River in Seoul did not freeze over once this year.
The Korea Meteorological Administration on Thursday said there was no freezing of the river at all from December to February. The river is officially considered frozen when the surface near the Hangang Bridge is completely covered with ice.
Korea has now seen eight winters without the river freezing over since records began in 1906.
This winter's average temperature nationwide stood at a record 3.1 degrees Celsius.
