A growing number of people are turning to meditation books to overcome their fears and isolation amid the coronavirus epidemic.

According to Korea's largest bookstore Kyobo Book Centre, sales of books about meditation and mindfulness surged 33 percent in January and February compared to the same period last year.

"It's quite unexpected," said a staffer. "It looks like people who are forced to stay indoors are turning to meditation to stay sane."

Meditation apps have also become popular. Mabo saw the number of subscribers jump 20 percent since Feb. 24, when the government raised the alert for the epidemic.

And Kokkiri, another app by former British journalist Daniel Tudor and Buddhist monk Haemin, also saw subscriptions rise by 10,000 after Feb. 24.
