Donations are pouring in to help fight against the coronavirus outbreak from celebrities and their fans.

The Korea Disaster Relief Association said Sunday it received over 8,000 donations totaling W388.94 million on behalf of K-pop band Bangtan Boys, also known as BTS (US$1=W1,216). Since BTS member Suga, whose hometown is Daegu, made a donation of W100 million to the organization on Feb. 27, fans have voluntarily followed suit.

Actress Jeon Ji-hyun also donated W100 million to the organization.

Actor Ji Chang-wook donated W100 million to the Daegu branch of the Korea Red Cross. Actors Kim Soo-hyun and Jung Hae-in also donated W100 million each to the Daegu branch of Community Chest of Korea.

Daegu has become a hotbed of infections since a so-called supercarrier, a follower of the secretive Shincheonji sect, was diagnosed with COVID-19 on Feb. 19.
