Winter makes it difficult for the body to produce enough vitamin D from sunlight, so what can you do to stay healthy in the dark months?
There is no need for a sleeveless shirt or undone buttons as sunlight penetrates fabric. All that is needed is to make good use of the few sunlight hours and bask in the feeble rays for half an hour, perhaps by taking a walk to keep the body warm.
If that is out of the question due to work commitments, a UV lamp can also help, or even a visit to a tanning salon.
Elderly people, however, should take care on icy roads as January is the most dangerous months for falls.
