China is deporting North Korean slave laborers under a UN Security Council deadline, and many Korean restaurants in the border area are closing as a result.
Many Chinese business owners in Dandong are indignant because their North Korean workers are being repatriated, a North Korea expert who recently visited China said Tuesday.
Instead, China is stepping up import and export of goods that are not covered by the sanctions to help its ally, including fertilizer and food. And Qingdao Airlines will launch three direct weekly flights from Qingdao, Quanzhou and Zhengzhou to Pyongyang in October, bringing the total number of flight routes between the two countries to 10.
Meanwhile, the North Korean regime imported 22,862 francs worth of Swiss watches from January to November last year, Radio Free Asia reported citing data from the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry.
That is about double the 11,747 francs worth the regime imported a year earlier and suggests that plenty of valuta are flowing in from somewhere. Swiss watches are typically doled out as loyalty rewards to North Korean party officials.
