Korea beat Iran 2-1 in its second match of the Asian Football Confederation U-23 Championship in Thailand on Sunday.
The championship serves as the Asian qualifiers for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
Korea got off to a good start with an opening goal by Lee Dong-jun in the 22nd minute. Cho Gue-sung added another in the 35th minute. Korea conceded a goal in the 54th minute but held on for the win.
Korea defeated China in the opener of the championship last week, and with Sunday's victory earned a spot in the quarterfinals, regardless of the result of the remaining match against Uzbekistan slated for Wednesday.
The top four countries will secure tickets to the Olympics. But if they do not include Japan, which automatically qualifies as the host nation, only the top three go through.
