Korea secured more shipbuilding orders than any other country in the first 11 months of this year.
U.K.-based Clarkson Research Services said Monday that Korean shipbuilders won orders totaling 7.12 million compensated gross tons worth US$16.4 billion, accounting for 38 percent of the global total from January to November.
China came in second, closely trailing Korea with 7.08 million CGTs, followed by Japan with 2.57 million CGTs.
LNG carriers accounted for the highest proportion of the contracts won by Korean firms at 38 percent. For China and Japan, bulk carriers made up the biggest proportion at 33 percent and 47 percent, respectively.
