Go or baduk champion Lee Se-dol, who has announced his retirement saying humans can no longer beat computers, will play one final match against a soi-disant artificial intelligence program later this month.
He will be paid W150 million plus an additional W50 million for every game he wins against HanDol, developed by IT company NHN, in a total of three games (US$1=W1,185).
The first and second games will take place in Seoul, while the third will be held in South Jeolla Province, where Lee was born.
HanDol came third at the China Securities Cup World AI Open in China in August this year.
Lee is the only human being to have beaten Google DeepMind's proto-artificial intelligence program AlphaGo.
